Fort Laramie, Wyoming, United States

1 March, 2022

Originally a private fur trading post, Fort Laramie grew to the largest and most well-known military post at the height of the westward migration along the Oregon Trail. The epitome of the Wild, Wild, West, Fort Laramie offered food, shelter, and safety along one of the most dangerous stretches of the Oregon Trail. But its demise was just as swift as its rise. The much safer trans-continental railroad led to the closure of Fort Laramie in 1890. Today, much of the fort is preserved, letting you turn back time and get a glimpse into a much different era in the American West.
