Haskell Free Library and Opera House
Derby Line, Vermont, United States
21 August, 2019
Deliberately built straddling the US-Canada border, the Haskell Free library is one of the few remaining of its kind, and is the only opera house in the world where the performers and the audience are in different countries. While the only entrance is in the US, you can access the library from either the US or Canada, and while you can move around freely inside the library, you must return to the country you came from when you leave. The black line across the floor throughout the building marks the international border. The library is completely bilingual English and French.
